The Need for Stricter FDA Regulations
Yaz Problems and issues about its side effects have been the topic of news and the talk about in many discussions. As many women prefer birth control pills over other forms of contraceptives, the allegations about one of the most known birth control pills causing side effects such as pulmonary embolism, heart attacks and gallbladder disease have caused deep concerns to the public.
Even though the FDA or Food and Drug Administration took immediate actions to control the situation by having Yaz contraceptives carry the FDA’s strongest warning label, it is still not enough as warning labels are not as good as preventing drugs with fatal side effects from being released to the market. Better and stricter regulations should be implemented by the FDA when it comes to birth control drugs as this could mean saving more than fifty lives of women from heart attacks, strokes and other fatal and serious side effects of contraceptive pills. The agency must list prescription drugs as well as over the counter drugs that show evidences of serious side effects and launch better public warning and awareness about them other than just mere warning labels on the product packaging which usually are printed in small font sizes.
Improved and stricter regulations for birth control and other kinds of prescription drugs would mean saving the lives of many women in the near future.
