New State, New World, New Rules
Moving out of state is not as easy as finding a new home in a different state, hiring one of the long distance moving companies available to transfer your belongings, leaving your old house and shoving everything you own inside your new property.
Out of state relocation needs a lot of planning, from the things you will leave behind, to the things you are about to encounter in your new state of residency. One of the things you need to consider is about your driver’s license and vehicle registration. As laws and tradition varies in each state, you should consider researching for information on what you should do or what is required from you by the state you are leaving from and by your destination state. For example, you are moving out of Oregon. If your relocation is permanent, you should notify Oregon’s Driver and Motor Vehicle Services Division of your new address within thirty days of your move. One you receive your new driver’s license issued by your new state, you should send your old license to the DMV of Oregon.
Also, in moving out of state, you need to change and surrender your old plates. Some states may not require surrendering old license plate but it is better to do so as the state can recycle license plates.
