My art has always revolved around the visceral physicality of the human body. However, the body I am currently speaking of cannot always be communicated by a drawing or etching of the body’s likeness, but at times must be represented by the debris or by-products of one’s daily life. Visual repetition is used within my work to emphasize the reoccurrence of daily life. Currently, the unrelenting, daily regime of Juvenile Diabetes influences much of what and how I create. As within My Jewels: 120 x 12, the accumulation of 120 blood glucose test strips on 12 pieces of masonite, represent 120 finger pricks per month or one year of time spent. Although I use personal data, I’m attempting to draw attention to the narrative, repetitious, ritualistic nature that holds everyone’s daily life together. |
